FAQ

Product Questions

Common questions about our aluminium paste range.

What is the difference between leafing and non-leafing aluminium paste?
Leafing grades (G-Series and NS-Series) float to the surface during film formation, creating a continuous metallic layer with high reflectivity and excellent barrier properties. Non-leafing grades distribute evenly throughout the film, providing metallic effect with better over-coatability and intercoat adhesion.
What makes the Silver Dollar NS-Series different from standard leafing grades?
The Silver Dollar NS-Series uses specially treated flakes that achieve superior surface flotation, forming an almost continuous, mirror-bright metallic barrier. This delivers enhanced corrosion protection, a distinctive "dollar silver" finish, and excellent chemical resistance — making them the premium choice for roofing, marine, and high-performance automotive applications.
Are water-based grades safe to use in aqueous formulations?
Yes. Our WB-Series grades are specially passivated to prevent the hydrogen gas evolution that can occur when aluminium contacts water. They are stable in aqueous binder systems and comply with REACH and low-VOC coating regulations.
What is the typical solid content of your aluminium pastes?
All our standard solvent-based grades carry 65% non-volatile content (±2%). The remaining 35% is a high-flash-point MS/SN solvent carrier ensuring safe handling and storage. Water-based grades also maintain 65% NVC.
Which grade do you recommend for automotive applications?
For automotive OEM basecoats, grades 302S or 305S (ultra-fine, smooth finish) are preferred. For automotive refinish with sparkle effects, SP-Standard or SP-Intense grades are recommended. For protective automotive coatings, the NS-Series Silver Dollar grades offer outstanding corrosion resistance.
What packaging options are available?
Standard packaging includes 5 kg, 25 kg, and 50 kg pails. Bulk packaging can be arranged for high-volume requirements. Custom packaging for specific requirements is available on request.
